Following its change in shareholders, SK Rent-a-Car is continuing to make new changes in nurturing young talent and in its organizational culture, alongside strengthening its business competitiveness.
SK Rent-a-Car (Co-CEOs: Shin Jeong-ho and Park Sang-wook) announced on the 2nd that it has successfully completed its '2026 Summer Internship Program,' designed to give young people practical job experience and opportunities to grow. A total of nine young participants took part in the internship, gaining hands-on experience in operating departments over three months.
Going beyond a simple corporate experience or clerical support, the program focused on helping young people deepen their understanding of the mobility industry as a whole and build their job skills by carrying out real business tasks. In particular, the interns completed a variety of practice-oriented field programs. Most notably, they visited 'Cheonan Auto Auction,' Korea's largest used-car auction facility, where they toured the vehicle inspection process and observed live used-car auctions, experiencing first-hand a real business setting that cannot be learned at a desk.
One intern who visited the Auto Auction said, "When I heard 'used-car auction house,' I first imagined a somewhat chaotic place with cars packed tightly together, but when I actually got there, it was completely different from what I expected." The intern added, "It was fascinating to see for myself how every step, from checking a vehicle's condition and reconditioning it for sale to putting it up for auction, is carried out systematically."
Another intern said, "I used to think a rental car company just rents out cars, but it was on site that I first learned that the entire process of purchasing vehicles, operating and managing them, and then distributing them as used cars is connected as a single business," adding, "Seeing the vehicles and facilities in person made the company's business structure much easier to understand than hearing it explained in the office."
Some interns also discovered unexpected things on site. One intern said, "Honestly, I thought used cars would be old and worn out, and very different from new cars," adding, "I was surprised to see how much more neatly the reconditioned vehicles were maintained than I expected, and I learned for the first time that it takes many steps and many hands for a single used car to become a product again."
Kim Hyun-jin, a manager on SK Rent-a-Car's HR Team who oversaw the internship and recruitment, said, "We designed the program in close cooperation with the operating departments so that interns with little work experience could take on real tasks themselves and discover their own aptitudes and potential," adding, "Although it was a short period, we could see them grow remarkably as they worked alongside our members and exchanged feedback."
In addition to supporting young talent from outside the company, SK Rent-a-Car is also strengthening its field-oriented onboarding program to help newly joined members settle quickly into the organization.
A prime example is the Direct Sales Team, which recently welcomed three new members at once. The team helps new members adjust quickly through field-oriented onboarding that follows a 'learn, act on it right away, and get feedback again' approach. New members are given practical assignments every day and hold one-on-one meetings with the team leader every three days to a week. In these meetings, they review the sales process and results together and define their next assignments in concrete terms.
In particular, instead of searching for customers without a clear direction, new members were guided to segment potential customer groups by industry, set targets and then develop approach strategies. Senior salespeople also actively passed on the customer-prospecting and consultation know-how they had built up in the field.
Lee Jae-hong, Head of SK Rent-a-Car's Direct Sales Team, cited the new members' 'blank-slate absorptiveness' as their strength. Lee said, "Because they have no preconceptions about existing sales methods, they are quickly absorbing the know-how their seniors have built up in the field and making it their own," adding, "Above all, they have a strong drive to set their own goals and deliver results to match."
Kim Hyun-jin, a manager on SK Rent-a-Car's HR Team, said, "I believe recruitment shouldn't end with selecting the talent we need; it should carry through to helping newly joined members adapt well to the organization and put their strengths to use," adding, "We are communicating continuously with the operating departments to support a natural link between recruitment and onboarding."
These moves are in line with the strategy to strengthen business and organizational competitiveness that SK Rent-a-Car has been pursuing since the change in shareholders. The company believes that, alongside building business systems, discovering the talent to execute them and creating an environment where members can fully engage in their work are key to sustainable growth.
An SK Rent-a-Car official said, "For a company to keep growing, continuous investment not only in systems but also in the 'people' who drive them is essential," adding, "We will continue to give young people practical job-training opportunities to fulfill our social responsibility, while building a horizontal and inclusive organizational culture in which newly joined members can freely unleash their capabilities."
